Brief Project Description
The project is within the framework of efforts to investigate the optimal alternative of Mining Waste Management.
These waste byproducts derive from Perlite facilities’ dedusting systems.
The project’s main goal has been the setting of essential requirements that may guarantee the minimization of negative environmental impacts during mining waste disposal.

Phase A
Perlite Waste characteristics were investigated and an analysis was conducted in regards to the national, European and international legislative framework of waste disposal to sea and land alike. Processing and disposal alternatives were chosen in accordance with assessments on technical requirements, cost of carrying them out and yearly operative costs.
Phase B
Further analytical investigation was carried out on alternatives, as far as environmental impacts are concerned. We undertook a presentation of these alternatives with specific references on particular impacts each of them would cause. Thus followed the selection of the least harmful alternative.
