Country: Greece

Region: Serres and Sidirokastro Municipalities
Client: Althea Energeiaki S.A.

Start date (month/year): 12/2010
Completion date (month/year): 01/2012

Detailed Project Description:

  • Ecological value assessment of wind energy parks’ location (44MW in total)
  • Collection of main bibliography sources in relation to the area’s natural environment
  • Flora and habitat type data collection through field work. Emphasis added on endemic and scarce flora species found in the study area, aiming at their protection during construction works of wind energy parks.
  • Fauna data collection through field work, with added emphasis on avifauna species within the study area. Data research on presence and activity in and around wind turbine locations, size of avifauna species’ composition and population, habitat choice and use.
  • Outline of possible corridors, through which migrating species pass.
  • Assessment of impacts on flora and fauna deriving from wind energy parks’ construction and operation
  • Proposal of mitigating measures in response to the wind parks’ construction and operation
