Detailed Project Description


Within the context of the Water Framework Directive (WFD) implementation in Greece, a consortium, with Enveco SA as a leader, undertook this project, which covers the implementation of all articles of Water Framework Directive in 3 major Water Districts of the country.  In particluar, the following tasks have been accomplised:

Task 1:Drawing a list of authorities responsible for water resource management  and protection and determination of the districts under their jurisdiction
Task 2: Characterization of water bodies, final characterization of especially modified and artificial water bodies, update of Protected Areas Registry.
Task 3: Human factor consequences listing and evaluation                                                 

Task 4:Economic analysis of water use and evaluation of cost rebound level estimation in relation to various water services.
Task 5: Determining the type/characteristics of reference conditions and evaluation/ranking of qualitative and quantitative  surface and groundwater status
Task 6: Specification of “exceptions” of WFD environmental goals and determining corresponding targets aimed at.
Task 7: Program formation  of basic and complementary measures for water bodies protection and rehabilitation
Task 8:Setting a plan for abatement of lack of water and drought in accordance with preventive  planning  principles                                                                                                   

Task 9:Evaluation of suggested measure programs and correspondent cost-benefit analysis
Task 10: Strategic Environmental Assessment Study (SEA)
Task 11: Update of Programs, which monitor surface and groundwater status 
Task 12: Publication of management pre-plans, including SEAs, pubic consultation and evaluation/incorporation of public consultation conclusions
Task 13:Management pre-plans, with the addition of information on cross-border cooperation issues, detailed management programs for specific areas
Task 14: Finalization of management plans according to Article 13, as well as Appendix vii of the Directive
Task 15: Presentation of study results
Task 16: Incorporation of the study’s results into the EEA Database and submission to the European Commission
Task 17:Incorporation of the study’s results into the Central Water Service Database
Task 18: Timetable and Deliverables of each study phase

Description of actual services provided by Enveco within the assignment:
 

Our staff covered the issues related to the following tasks:


Characterization of water bodies, final characterization of especially modified and artificial water bodies, update of Protected Areas Registry.
Economic analysis of water use and evaluation of cost rebound level estimation in relation to various water services (environmental and resources cost)
