Description of actual services provided by the Consultant within the assignment:

 

  • Provision of technical guidance on the methods and monitoring protocols for eight different biodiversity monitoring programmes, i.e. types of natural habitats, flora species, invertebrate species, reptiles, amphibians, mammals, freshwater fish, marine habitats and species, birds.

  • Supervision of the monitoring programmes’ implementation. The programmes were implemented by different expert groups and focused on the Natura 2000 sites of Greece.

  • Composition of the Directive 92/43/EC (Habitat Directive) - article 17 – 3rd National Report, as well as the Directive 2009/147/EC (Birds Directive) – article 12 – 2nd National Report.

  • Assessment and setting of the Favourable Reference Values (FRVs) for habitats and species of Community importance at different spatial levels, i.e. national and where possible regional and Natura 2000 site specific.

  • Preparation of Conservation Objectives for habitats and species of Community importance at different spatial levels, i.e. national and where possible regional and Natura 2000 site specific.

  • Review the existing Natura 2000 network of sites and propose possible expansions of existing sites or the addition of new ones in order to fulfil national obligations vis a vis the implementation of the two Directives (92/43/EC, 2009/147/EC).

  • Design the National Biodiversity Monitoring Programme , taking into account the monitoring requirements of the Water Framework Directive (2000/60/EC) and Marine Strategy Framework Directive (2008/56/EC)

  • Organisation of public consultation activities, which included open presentation events and on line web facilities.
